The 2023 Japan-Texas Educator Professional Development Course explores Japan after Oppenheimer through asynchronous online lectures and readings.
Educators are invited to delve into how contemporary Japan can be understood within a global context and how “Japan-specific” content can be used to raise awareness of social issues faced by American students. Topics include: Japanese geopolitics with a focus on changing U.S.-China and U.S.-Russia relationships; Japan’s role in the global supply chain; and the impact of energy policy on Japanese security.
With the guidance of lead instructors, participants will become equipped to teach about Japan with ideas for lesson plans utilizing the rich primary sources provided. Four (4) hours of credit are available for TX in-service teachers.
Join us as we analyze the impact of changing foreign relations on Japan and the Asia Pacific and discuss how the U.S.-Japan supply chain is critical to national security and economic competitiveness.
