October Theme: Sports (Baseball)

Taiiku no Hi (体育の日) or Sports Day is observed in Japan on the second Monday in October. This year, Taiiku no Hi will be marked on October 9.

The national holiday was established to commemorate the 1964 Olympic Games that were held in Tokyo. The goal of Taiiku no Hi is to foster healthy minds and bodies through physical activity.

Many companies, schools, government institutions, and local communities organize their own sports-related events to celebrate Japan’s Sports Day. The most popular Taiiku no Hi event is known as an Undokai or school field day.

As we celebrate Sports Day through Origami in the Park, we will be folding baseball players and baseball equipment. Three (3) origami patterns ranging from beginner to advanced are available for participants to enjoy.
