Former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japan’s longest serving prime minister, was assassinated during a campaign appearance in Nara, Japan on July 8, 2022. At the time of his death, though no longer prime minister, he was one of Japan’s most powerful and influential figures.

In this webinar hosted by Japan Society in New York, Dr. Gerald L. Curtis, Burgess Professor Emeritus of Political Science at Columbia University and Dr. Ryo Sahashi, Associate Professor of International Relations, Institute for Advanced Studies on Asia at The University of Tokyo, in conversation with Japan Society Chair Merit E. Janow, discuss former Prime Minister Abe’s legacy and the impact of his murder on Japanese society and foreign policy.
