The “Ue o Muite SING FOR HOPE Project,” led by Amon Miyamoto, started as an effort to deliver hope to patients and medical workers who are on the front lines of the COVID-19 battle and to cheer on individuals who are fighting the pandemic in their own ways. It is also hoped that the Project can support those who are feeling lonely and powerless amidst these hard times.

I hope that, instead of arguing with each other, we can join forces as one, transcending nationality, religion, status, gender and age, to overcome [these] anxious and testing times.
— Amon Miyamoto, Project Founder

Ue o Muite Aruko (上を向いて歩こう), also known as Sukiyaki,  is a song beloved by both the Japanese and international community. The song written by Rokusuke Ei was first recorded by Japanese crooner Kyu Sakamoto and released in Japan in 1961. It went on to top the charts in several countries. By the summer of 1963, it was the No. 1 song in America and spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard charts in June 1963. The song grew to become one of the world's best-selling singles of all time, selling over 13 million copies worldwide. "Sukiyaki" transcended language because it hit an emotional nerve.

The project calls for artists around the world to incorporate their messages of hope through this song.

Join JASH as we add our voices to this effort to remind the world that, while we may be apart, we are not alone in this pandemic.
