Japanese Garden App Launches Providing Mobile Access to Insights and Content
Mobile Media Application Created with Funding from the Japanese Government Guides Visitors through the Japanese Garden
The Houston Japanese Garden app, which is made possible by Japan-America Society of Houston (JASH) through funding from the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston and support from the Houston Parks and Recreation Department (H.P.A.R.D.) and Hermann Park Conservancy, aims to provide access to cultural and educational content in a highly customized mobile experience.
The release of the app celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Japanese Garden (1992-2022) and offers information about the Garden’s history, the plants on view in the Garden, and the cultural significance of Garden elements. Through text, audio and images, visitors can access dynamic information in an engaging way as they view the real displays before them.
It’s easy to appreciate the beauty of the Japanese Garden. However, the Garden is meant to be an experience that goes beyond the current moment. The app puts the expertise of the most knowledgeable Japanese Garden guide at every visitors’ fingertips, which enriches the on-site visitor experience and provides a unique opportunity to explore Japanese culture from home.
-JASH President Laird Doran
Visitors of all ages, families, teachers, and culture-seekers have the opportunity to engage with the Garden in a transformative way that furthers understanding of not only the Garden but also nature and Japanese culture.
The new mobile application is now available for free download to Android and iOS devices.
