Ikebana Classes
Ikebana, which translates to "living flowers," is the traditional Japanese art form of flower arrangement.
Known also as "Kadō," the way of the flowers, the arrangements were intended for Buddhist altars dating back to the 7th century. Now appreciated as a highly cultivated art form that preserves the beauty of flowers, philosophical and poetic symbolism continue to embellish the traditional styles, bridging traditional and modern elements.
JASH in partnership with Ikenobo Society of Texas, and with the support of the Ikebana International Houston Chapter #12, is pleased to be offering the opportunity to learn the classical art of floral refinement in a series of classes beginning in the fall.
Instruction and all materials necessary to create arrangements in the style of the Ikenobo School of Ikebana will be provided. However, students are asked to bring the following items with them to class:
garden scissors
a small hand towel
a bucket or wrap for floral materials
After completing seven classes, students will be presented with an "Nyu-mon" entry level certificate of achievement.
Register for the 7-class morning series or Classic Ikebana for Beginners evening classes below.
Class size is limited to 10 individuals.
In the interest of safety for our instructor and students during this pandemic, all Ikebana classes for the remainder of the 2019-2020 session have been cancelled.
