June 5: “The Tubmaker Who Flew to the Sky” and Colorful Rocking Snail

June is called tsuyu or the rainy season in Japan. Coincidentally, June is the start of hurricane season in Houston. As temperatures and humidity levels rise throughout the month, heavy thunderstorms occasionally occur. But what causes the rain?

Join us for a kamishibai reading of “Okeya no Tennobori” or “The Tubmaker Who Flew to the Sky” to discover what the ancient Japanese people believed was the true source of rain and thunder.

Following the kamishibai presentation, make a colorful rocking snail to keep you company and bring you some joy during rainy summer days.
