Join JASH for the Texas-Japan Business Leaders Roundtable, a monthly business and policy program series that spotlights engines of creativity, innovation and economic opportunity in our region while connecting Texas and Japan industry leaders to promote bilateral exchange through shared experiences and diverse insights.

September’s gathering will serve as a farewell to The Honorable Hideo Fukushima, Consul-General of Japan in Houston, as his time at the Consulate-General of Japan in Houston comes to an end. Consul-General Fukushima will be reflecting on his time serving our region and will share his thoughts on the strength of the Texas-Japan alliance.

About the Speaker:

Consul-General Hideo Fukushima has had a diverse and globe-spanning career as a representative for the Japanese government. He joined the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1985, the same year he graduated with a B.A. from the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Law. Seeking to continue his education, he earned his M.A. from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies in 1988.

While in Japan, Mr. Fukushima served as Director for the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s Climate Change Division in 2003, going on to direct the Global Environment Division (2005), and the Public Diplomacy Division (2007). In 2008, his career went international as he was selected to serve as Minister for Public Affairs at the Embassy of Japan in the United States. Following this, he was named to ministerial roles at several Japanese embassies, including the Russian Federation in 2010, Italy in 2012, and Thailand in 2015. In Thailand, he also served as Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

In 2018, Mr. Fukushima was appointed Consul-General of Japan in Houston. With a focus on Texas and Oklahoma, he works to advance and strengthen the mutually beneficial relationship between Japan and the United States.
